This research project developed at the Engineering Department of the University of Ferrara, with the support of an important manufacturer of hydraulic systems for automotive applications, has the aim to design and realize a prototype of a Motor Pump Unit (MPU), formed by an hydraulic gear pump, a Permanent Magnet (PM) brushless motor and a power converter with a microcontroller unit, implementing sensorless control of the motor speed. The expected application domain of the MPU designed in this project is the market of Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) systems for commercial vehicles, or any other kind of hydraulic system that can be used for auxiliary functions on a commercial vehicle.
