Virtual reality and computer animation are considered tools for the administration and planning of urban areas, provided they are based on a three-dimensional digital metric model. In this paper, we present a 3-D metric model of a small part of the city of Ferrara (Italy) obtained by an integrated use of low-cost digital stereoscopic and monoscopic photogrammetric systems. Aerial and terrestrial photographs were used together: the terrestrial photographs (taken with a semi-metric camera) were used to restitute the facades of buildings while the aerial photographs (taken with a metric camera) were used to restitute the roofs and, above all, for space resection of the terrestrial photographs. Bundle adjustment algorithms were employed to link the two kinds of photos by tie points. We performed some tests of the coordinates of significant points to verify the accuracy of the 3-D urban model.
