Background. E-bikes can effectively contribute to the achievement of several sustainable development goals as they promote modal shift and help reducing the reliance on private cars in favour of more sustainable transportation options; in Ferrara, a medium-sized city in Emilia Romagna, many workers commute by car from the suburbs to the city center for work. This results in traffic congestion and increased air pollution; the flat terrain makes commuting by e-bike a practical option for medium distances, especially where public transport is limited. Purpose. Investigating respondents' interest in the potential installation of photovoltaic bicycle shelters in Ferrara; providing evidence of the respondents' socio-demographic characteristics, habits of the means of transport used on a daily basis, pro-environmental behaviour, mobility issues in Ferrara.

This results in traffic congestion and increased air pollution; the flat terrain makes commuting by e-bike a practical option for medium distances, especially where public transport is limited.
