Palatium suum pulcherrimum et ornatissimum. Architecture for Borso’s retreat in the hermitage of Carthusian monks · Borso d’Este had a palace built for his retreat within the Certosa di Ferrara. In the 19th century, it was used as a cavalry barrack and then almost completely demolished to adapt the monastery to cemeterial use. On the basis of archival evidence and surviving traces, we can identify its location and ideally reconstruct its structure, with the functions of the various rooms and their decorations: his personal flat had an entrance antechamber, room with a guard room, a private oratory, a study, a drawing room with a ‘salvaroba’, and other connected spaces.
Borso d’Este fece costruire un palazzo per il proprio ritiro dentro la Certosa di Ferrara. Nell’Ottocento esso fu destinato a caserma di cavalleria e poi quasi totalmente demolito per adattare il complesso a cimitero. Sulla base delle testimonianze archivistiche e delle tracce superstiti, possiamo individuarne la posizione e ricostruire idealmente la sua struttura, con le funzioni delle diverse stanze e le relative decorazioni: il suo appartamento personale aveva un’anticamera di ingresso, camera con guardacamera, un oratorio privato, studiolo, salotto con salvaroba, e altri spazi collegati.
