MSWiM is the annual international conference on Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of Wireless and Mobile Systems. MSWiM is an international forum dedicated to in-depth discussions of wireless and mobile systems, networks, algorithms, and applications, emphasizing rigorous performance evaluation and primary addressing topics related to the theory or practice of all aspects of modeling, analysis and simulation of mobile and wireless systems. In particular, the technical program of the 23rd ACM MSWiM, successfully held virtually in November 2020, highlights the high standard of this conference. In 2020, the call for papers attracted 100 submissions for review in all areas of mobile and wireless systems. The submitted papers came from all over the world, from a total of 32 countries, reflecting the worldwide visibility and the international profile of MSWiM. The most addressed topics of MSWiM 2020 were Wireless Communication and Networks, Network Simulations and Simulators, Performance Evaluation, and Ad Hoc Networks. These topics confirm that the focus of the conference is on modeling and analyzing wireless networks, also based on simulated environments. Other topics such as Vehicular Networks, Edge/Fog Computing, and IoT & Energy demonstrate the relevance of modeling and simulating wireless environments in research fields that emerged and affirmed more recently. Such considerations confirm the significant importance of MSWiM as an international venue for the research community actively investigating important topics ranging from modeling of mobile and wireless systems to their simulation and measurements, also when applied in specific environments such as vehicular networking and the Internet of Things. This Computer Communications Special Issue was prepared by inviting the most promising papers accepted at MSWiM 2020. The primary goal was to allow authors to further investigate their research topics by enhancing their MSWiM 2020 papers to provide a broader and more in-depth presentation and analysis of their solutions. After a careful review process, only nine high quality papers have been selected for publication in this Special Issue.
