Santuari al I miglio: riesame critico dello studio di Giovanni Colonna e stato della questione

The present work wants to review the idea of a sanctuarial circuit at the first mile of the urbs that would define one of the most ancient boundaries of Rome, proposing a reasoned integration to the article published in 1991 by Giovanni Colonna. For this reason new archaeological clues have been inserted. From this last point of view, with the exception of the cases of Anna Perenna and Marte Gradivo, unfortunately it was not possible to add relevant news compared to what published by Colonna and once again the need for a new systematic and multidisciplinary research on the topic , which also takes into account the landscape aspect of this critical area, is highlighted. In any case this revision allows to further define the liminal function of these sanctuaries, especially regarding the formation and rites of passage linked to the juvenile condition, a common aspect to the different investigated cults that allows them to be put in a semantic relationship. On the other hand, instead, the sanctuaries do not seem to have a temporal coherence not only with regard to their foundation but also in relation to the continuity of the cult, which in some cases seems to lose importance with the advent of the imperial age.
