Tecnologie e territorialità. Riflessioni su nuove visioni di sostenibilità [Technologies and Territorial Milieu. Addressing New Visions of Sustainability]

This essay authored by Michela Toni deals with the issue of the relationship between technology and the territory in which it is used and deepens the contribution that certain visions of building practice can give to the environment as a whole. The specific interest in this issue is to think on how to interpret and/or address the project choices towards hypotheses compatible with the environment in order to deal with the challenges and perspectives that arise in the technological field while taking into account that the diversity sterilizes a self-referential technocentric vision downstream of decisions taken at different scales without entering into the merits. The concept of "territoriality" provides a fundamental interpretative key to the inseparable link between construction practices and environments in which they are applied, in order to understand or predict the success of design approaches and works aimed at improving people's living conditions and protecting the environment, also by virtue of the technical solutions proposed. Some contexts and projects are chosen in which principles of sustainability are implemented to analyze them from within their cultural territories of reference and understand why the relevant quality paths have developed in certain places and not in others. One wonders about the "South Tyrolean model" approach to the building sector where the high level of architecture and technical solutions adopted is the result of a social cohesion that has made work grow and built a virtuous market in the building sector, and as such, it cannot be exported outside certain territorial conditions. The relationship between natural building materials and the environment producing the feedstock is investigated, which allows to address the issue of responsibly using all resources with higher criticism, to the benefit of an economy linked to the territories in order to create culture and job opportunities. The feasibility of a vision compatible with the territory, enhancing the local resources as much as possible, is also shown through two Italian and one Dutch projects, which testify unique affinities in the radical approach to sustainability through using the most advanced technology while taking into account the complex set of the relationships between man and the territory.

Il testo, di cui Michela Toni è curatrice, affronta il tema del rapporto tra la tecnologia e il territorio in cui viene utilizzata e approfondisce per alcuni aspetti il contributo che determinate visioni della pratica costruttiva possono dare all'ambiente nel suo complesso. L'interesse specifico al tema è riflettere su come interpretare e/o indirizzare le scelte di progetto verso ipotesi adatte al contesto per affrontare le problematiche e le prospettive che si pongono in ambito tecnologico, considerando che l'eterogeneità con cui occore rapportarsi rende sterile una visione tecnocentrica autoreferenziale che opera a valle di decisioni prese a scale diverse senza entrarvi nel merito. Si è introdotto il concetto di "territorialità" perché fornisce una chiave intrepretativa fondamentale del legame inscindibile tra pratiche costruttive e contesti in cui sono applicate, per comprendere o prevedere il successo di approcci e interventi progettuali mirati a migliorare le condizioni di vita delle persone e a salvaguardare l'ambiente, anche in virtù delle soluzioni tecniche proposte. Nelle diverse parti che compongono il lavoro che si presenta, sono scelti alcuni contesti e progetti in cui si attuano principi di sostenibilità per osservarli dall'interno dei propri territori culturali di riferimento e capire come mai i percorsi di qualità che li distinguono si siano sviluppati in determinati luoghi e non in altri. Ci si interroga sul "modello sudtirolese" di approccio al settore delle costruzioni dove il livello elevato dell'architettura e delle soluzioni tecniche adottate è la conseguenza di una coesione sociale che ha fatto crescere il lavoro e costruito un mercato virtuoso nell'ambito dell'edilizia, ma che, in quanto tale, non può essere esportato al di fuori dello sviluppo di determinate condizioni territoriali locali. Si riflette sul rapporto tra materiali da costruzione naturali e ambiente da cui sono ricavate le risorse per produrli, che consente di affrontare con maggiore criticità il tema di un utilizzo responsabile di tutte le risorse, a vantaggio di un'economia legata ai territori, che crei cultura e opportunità di lavoro. La praticabilità di una visione che punta alla compatibilità con il territorio, valorizzando il più possibile le risorse dell'ambiente, è inoltre dimostrata nel testo da alcuni interventi progettuali, due italiani e uno olandese, che testimoniano singolari affinità nel modo radicale di affrontare il tema della sostenibilità, che impiega la tecnologia più evoluta tenendo conto dell'insieme complesso delle relazioni tra l'uomo e il territorio in cui vive.
