The paper refers to a study carried out at the wastewater treatment plant of Ferrara, Northern Italy, in the sensitive area of the Po Valley, with the aim to evaluate, from a technical and an economic view point, a project of reusing of a part of the final effluent of the treatment plant of the town. The paper outlines the design choices in treatment sequence, the investment and operational and maintenace costs, the benefits resulting from the project as well as a cost benefit analysis.
