During the last decades the biotransformations of bile acids have been successfully used to reduce the number of steps in the synthesis of ursodeoxycholic acid from cholic acid1 and to enhance the selectivity of the oxido-reduction reactions.2,3 The biotrasformation of hyodeoxycholic acid (3α,6α-dihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acid) with various Rhodococcus strains (collection of IEP GmbH) is reported and the reactions are described in the Figure 1.
