The structural and functional complementarity of the macrobenthic faunal assemblage inhabiting the Sacca di Goro was studied through a five years long study. Three subtidal stations were sampled in triplicate at seasonal intervals. Univariate and multivariate analysis was used to assess community structure of the benthic assemblage. From the complete data set of the 52 species collected in the study period, only one subset of species which closely matched the wider community pattern exhibited by the complete data set was found at each station. These subsets were constituted by 7, 6 and 5 species at Stn A, B and C, respectively. Guilds represented were suspension feeders, surface deposit feeders and grazers. From our data, the benthic communities in the Sacca exhibited quite a poor structural complementarity
