The purpose of this paper is to provide some empirical relationships to estimate shear wave velocity, VS , from cone penetration resistance qc measured by Cone Penetration Tests. The correlations VS-qc , calibrated for the representative alluvial soil of the Ferrara region, can be used when direct measures of the shear wave velocity are unavailable. The Geotechnical Group of the Engineering Department of the Ferrara University is undertaking a general study of seismic local amplification on behalf of the local government of Ferrara Provincial Administration, in order to modify the land planning and mitigate the seismic effects. A widespread geotechnical investigation survey was recently carried out for the project of the “navigable channel”, including sounding with undisturbed sampling, laboratory tests, piezocone and down-hole tests with seismic cone, which produced a well documented geotechnical characterization of many sites. The data were analysed to validate some well known empirical correlations proposed in the geotechnical literature which enable the evaluation of VS from qc.

Abstract
The data were analysed to validate some well known empirical correlations proposed in the geotechnical literature which enable the evaluation of VS from qc.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
