It has been investigated the behaviour of some quaternary ammonium derivatives (most organics) against carbon steel acid corrosion, hydrogen permeation process and embrittlement in 1 N HCl at temperatures ranging from 25 to 60 °C. The most efficient additives in reducing the acid attack (quinolinium derivatives) are the most efficient also in reducing the hydrogen permeation currents. Nevertheless, no close relationship is obtained between the inhibition of hydrogen permeation currents and the results of Slow Strain Rate tests.
