A Slow Strain Rate (1x10e-6 s-1) has been applied to study the possibility of inhibiting or delaying the stress corrosion cracking (SCC) of AISI 304 stainless steel (SS) wires in 1 M HCl solutions at room temperature by using organic additives. Some of the tested organic substances (such as phenylthiourea, benzimidazole-2-thiol) inhibit SCC in the quoted environment. Similar tests were performed on U-bend specimens. Efficient SCC inhibitors can have an effect on both the incubation stage and propagation process of cracking.
