This paper examines some characteristics of the surface layers formed on OHFC copper specimens prefilmed with 5-hexyl-1,2,3-Benzotriazole (C6-BTA) and then maintained for various times in high resistivity water (5 ppm O2, 1 ppm CO2) at 40 °C. The protectivity of the surface layers formed by prefilming treatments has been evaluated by various tmeasurements: recording of polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectra, FTIR-reflection spectra, X-ray reflection spectra, XPS spectra. Some temptative interpretations of the very high protectivity obtained by the treatments with C6-BTA is carried out on the basis of the overall results.
