In our athletes tested during basal training red cell parameters did not differ from controls. MCV values of runners fell into the control range. Therefore, in contrast to the results obtained after prolonged and strenuous excercise, we can exclude the 'runner macrocytosis' during moderate and regular physical activity. On the other hand, the red cell creatine contents were significantly higher. Increased red cell creatine is reported to indicate low degrees of hemolysis. We suggest that during basal training a slightly enhanced erythrocyte destruction due to mechanical trauma (footstrikes) does occur.

Abstract
In our athletes tested during basal training red cell parameters did not differ from controls. MCV values of runners fell into the control range. Therefore, in contrast to the results obtained after prolonged and strenuous excercise, we can exclude the 'runner macrocytosis' during moderate and regular physical activity. On the other hand, the red cell creatine contents were significantly higher. Increased red cell creatine is reported to indicate low degrees of hemolysis. We suggest that during basal training a slightly enhanced erythrocyte destruction due to mechanical trauma (footstrikes) does occur.File in questo prodotto:
