Abstract

Electron microscopic study of the European eel ovary show that the later generation of oogonia and early meiotic oocyte are united by intercellular bridges and constitute syncitial clones. Every cyst containing on overage from 16 to 32 oocytes in initial meeiosis, and it follows that oocyte meiosis begins after 4 or 5 successive incomplete divisions of an oogonium. These observations generally confirm the picture of oogenesis in the vertebrate.
