The efficiency of some organic additives for SCC inhibition of AISI 304 SS in 1 M HCl can be demonstrated by the Slow Strain Rate Technique (SSR). 1 M HCl is the most aggressive for SCC of AISI 304 SS. The most suitable strain rate for studying SCC by SSR method has been found to be 1x10-6 s-1. Some organic additives have been tested as SCC inhibitors under the above condityions. Phenylthiourea, Benzimidazole-2-thiol, Benzothaizole-2-thiol have been found to inhibit SCC in SS, thus confirmimg previous results obtained with different techniques. The inhibiting action of these substances can be attributed to their inhibiting effect on the anodic reaction of metal dissolution.
