Forms of Memory are everywhere. Constant, pervasive, intangible, abstract and physical. They are everywhere, even when we do not remember them. Memory and its traces express an innate human need, a necessity: that of preserving, retaining or recalling. The concept of memory has evolved over the centuries, taking on forms and meanings that closely reflect different eras, cultural contexts, technological innovations, aspirations and fears, spanning time, the centuries and every human experience. In the beginning, there is the image, the representation, the graphic model. It is entrusted with the power to convey facts, people, events and warnings. Then the art of mnemonics intertwines with spoken culture, and finally with digital media – veritable ‘extensions’ or prostheses of human memory. But memory is not static. It is a dynamic process. At times, it is imperfect, irregular and fragile. Drawing, Representation and Survey are themselves ‘mechanisms’ of memory: they select, record, translate, distort, preserve and reactivate what has been perceived, whilst interpreting it. The forms of memory lie at the heart of the discipline of Drawing. Guided by Mnemosyne, this volume is divided into seven sections, in which the notes are actual extracts from memory, offering further ‘areas of interpretation’ necessary for a topic rich in connections and diverse pathways. The book aims to pose ‘thematic’ or targeted questions, through multiple intersecting paths. Because sometimes we need to stop and draw on ‘memory’ to understand (remember) where we come from and to suggest new horizons. Because there is no future without memory, including that which is left behind, lost or forgotten, whether voluntarily or not. Because memory is also loss, and this book is no exception; it also encompasses the shadows of amnesia (or certain aspects of darkness). If there are drawings of memory, there are also drawings of amnesia.
Le forme della memoria sono ovunque. Costanti, pervasive, immateriali, astratte e fisiche. A volte imperfetto, irregolare e fragile.

Abstract
If there are drawings of memory, there are also drawings of amnesia.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
