This paper traces the evolution of the bio-based supply chain in the construction sector through three complementary lenses – stakeholders, products and applications. Within the framework of the EU Renovation Wave and the Ecodesign Regulation 2024/1781, bio-based materials act as active carbon sinks, sequestering biogenic CO2 throughout the building life cycle. The contribution maps the emerging ecosystem of agrowaste processors, EU consortia and international networks; surveys representative envelope and interior components currently available on the European market; and discusses two recent paradigmatic projects in Paris and Milan that demonstrate the scalability of bio-based solutions in dense urban contexts.
