The book examines the global process of rooting of informal settlements in metropolitan areas, where they tend to stabilize and acquire sociocultural significance. Building on the urban morphology methodology developed in Informal Rooting (Tessari, 2020), the research applies this approach to Paraisópolis favela (São Paulo) in order to understand its urban and spatial grammar. The study emphasizes the urbanistic and architectural dimension, seeking to overcome reductionist views linked to marginality and complexity in such territories. It aims to contribute to the development of project and intervention methods more sensitive to the internal dynamics of the favela, turning the analysis into an open tool for knowledge and education, accessible to residents, urban policymakers, and architects and planners engaged in the regeneration of informal settlements.
