The technological evolution of building systems is increasingly influenced by the potential of highly evolved new generation components. If we combine this with the clear need for buildings to be energy neutral (if not energy productive), this explains why increasingly sophisticated solutions are being developed in the field of photovoltaic systems. The conventional adding of PV components on buildings is now joined by innovative products characterised by the integration of these technologies (BIPV) with structural and non-structural components. The paradigm shift is significant and in step with the times. Physical and energy performance merge, also influencing the aesthetics of the project. The presentation of some innovative systems or products aims to frame the potential and limits of these new approaches, but more generally to outline the barriers that still need to be overcome in order to consider these solutions sustainable and competitive design alternatives both in the context of building renovation and new construction.

Abstract
The technological evolution of building systems is increasingly influenced by the potential of highly evolved new generation components. If we combine this with the clear need for buildings to be energy neutral (if not energy productive), this explains why increasingly sophisticated solutions are being developed in the field of photovoltaic systems. The conventional adding of PV components on buildings is now joined by innovative products characterised by the integration of these technologies (BIPV) with structural and non-structural components. The paradigm shift is significant and in step with the times. Physical and energy performance merge, also influencing the aesthetics of the project. The presentation of some innovative systems or products aims to frame the potential and limits of these new approaches, but more generally to outline the barriers that still need to be overcome in order to consider these solutions sustainable and competitive design alternatives both in the context of building renovation and new construction.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
