During the writing of this book, we faced two main challenges in discussing topics and issues. The first challenge is related to the concept of sustainability for SMEs, which has evolved over the years. This evolution encompasses changes in laws and regulations worldwide, as well as shifts in practices and case studies. The dynamic nature of sustainability necessitates a continuous update of knowledge and an understanding of how these changes impact SMEs differently across various regions and industries. As sustainability regulations become more stringent and complex, SMEs must adapt their strategies and operations, which can be both an opportunity and a burden, depending on their resources and capa-bilities. The second challenge involves the inherent heterogeneity and distinctive features of SMEs. Small and medium-sized enterprises vary widely in terms of size, sec-tor, resources, and market focus. This diversity makes it difficult to apply a one-size-fits-all approach when discussing their challenges and strategies. Each SME has unique characteristics and operates under different conditions, which requires a nuanced understanding and tailored solutions. These two constraints have influenced the structure and content of our book. On one hand, they have driven us towards more abstraction and generalization to en-sure that the discussions and insights are broadly applicable. Generalization allows us to identify common themes and patterns that can provide valuable guidance to a wide range of SMEs. However, this approach risks oversimplifying the complex realities that individual SMEs face. On the other hand, we have counterbalanced this abstraction with the inclusion of case studies, examples, and applications. These practical elements are designed to ground our theoretical discussions in real-world contexts, making the book more relevant and useful for practitioners. By showcasing specific examples of how different SMEs have navigated sustainability challenges and leveraged their unique features, we aim to provide actionable insights and inspire readers to apply similar strategies in their own businesses. Overall, the dual approach of combining general principles with specific case studies aims to strike a balance between theory and practice, ensuring that the book is both informative and applicable. This method acknowledges the complex-ity of sustainability and the diversity of SMEs, while also providing concrete guidance to help practitioners implement effective and sustainable business prac-tices.

Abstract
This method acknowledges the complex-ity of sustainability and the diversity of SMEs, while also providing concrete guidance to help practitioners implement effective and sustainable business prac-tices.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
