Faced with the radicality of the phenomena of change in society, in cities, in the planet and considering by now acquired, in the architectural culture as in the socio-political one, the will and the necessity not to consume more soil and to reduce as much as possible the waste of resources and therefore to operate on the existing heritage whatever its intrinsic quality, we need to adapt the design process to the elaboration of different visions and strategies than in the past within an ecosystemic vision in which there will be an incessant need for cultural, social and architectural hybridization. Today it is now public knowledge, but not only, that the absolute has been suspended from the relative and the interactive. We no longer operate within a precise and perfect system as desired by the modern, but with uncertain, metamorphic, intersecting systems and methods that must confront complex issues. Starting from the theorizations of the early 20th-century philosopher and sociologist Maurice Halbwaches who in On Collective Memory of 1925 illustrates that collective memory is territorialized in urban and architectural space, it seemed logical to respond to the need of a small mountain municipality located in the Italian Dolomites, Sappada, to propose, in order to solve the problem of temporary residence, a hybrid intervention of relationship between Halbwaches statements and those with the environment, understood as an ecological system: the reconditioning of the former Fasil Barracks building. Sappada is a locality that lives on winter and summer tourism; therefore, all the village's accommodation is used to accommodate tourists. Hence, the municipality needs to give accommodation to all those operators who support tourism and make this small town of about 1,300 inhabitants live, which becomes about 25,000 in high season. To carry out the operation of mutation of the building into a residence, the strategy of reconditioning was activated, that is, to replace only those elements no longer appropriate for the required use through the use of tools deduced from the hybrid interweaving of already known and new figures deduced from the environment such as the parasite, the graft, a new porous skin, which allowed the mutation into small temporary housing for workers with common services. The goal then is to create a new hospitality system encompassed between innovation and on-site resources for seasonal workers using the regeneration of existing discarded areas and buildings.
