The eruption of Vesuvius mount in 1979 with 10,000 victims is known as the first recorded natural disaster and has been followed by thousands more over the years. Natural disasters are very powerful for people to cope with. These events have brought many consequences, but this could be mitigated or avoided if people could be warned or know how to better manage the situation. Technology helps us collect and analyze data in these situations. This introduces the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) to warn, remotely monitor, analyze the situation, people, etc. This article introduces current scenarios of how to deal with these natural disasters. The challenges faced in dealing with these phenomena will also be highlighted, summarizing the available IoT-based technologies for disaster management and their suitability for implementation in catastrophic situations. The purpose of this study is to provide the basics regarding IoTbased disaster management systems that help us understand the contributions of previous research and future direction, to address these challenges
