Decameron II 2. Remissività e prontezza di spirito al cospetto della Fortuna

This article analyses the relationship that the protagonists of Decameron II 2, Rinaldo of Asti and the widow who helps him, establish with Fortune. It highlights that this novella offers two different paradigms of reaction to the events: on the one hand male passivity, on the other female initiative. Thus, while Rinaldo is part of the group of the second Day’s characters who are at the mercy of Fortune, according to queen Filomena’s requests, the widow anticipates with her ingenuity and enterprise the personality traits of the protagonists of the third Day’s novellas, serving at the same time as a useful example for young lovers.

Questo articolo analizza il rapporto che i due protagonisti di Decameron II 2, Rinaldo d’Asti e la vedova che corre in suo soccorso, intessono con la Fortuna. Si mette in luce come questa novella offra due paradigmi opposti di reazione agli eventi: alla passività dell’uomo risponde l’intraprendenza della donna. In questo modo, se Rinaldo si inserisce alla perfezione tra i personaggi in balia della Fortuna della Giornata II, in linea con le richieste della regina Filomena, la vedova anticipa per ingegno e iniziativa personale i tratti caratteriali dei protagonisti delle narrazioni della Giornata III, configurandosi per altro come un esempio istruttivo al quale i giovani amanti dovrebbero guardare.
