L'expression de l' «aimantine foy» dans La Machabée de Jean de Virey. Étude lexicale et comparaison avec la Tragi-comedie d’A. de La Croix

This essay offers a lexical analysis of La Machabee Tragedie du martyre des sept freres, & de Solomone leur mere by Jean de Virey, dramatist and Catholic militant, with a special focus on the semantic networks that organize the text as well as the exploitation by the author of morphological derivation and composition. La Machabee is then compared to another play that stages an episode of martyrdom and that is probably based on the same communicational intention despite being produced in the Protestant faction, i.e. the Tragi-comedie by Antoine de La Croix, most likely a pseudonym of the poet and pastor Antoine de La Roche-Chandieu. The two plays, besides sharing a common interest for the theme of voice and speech, which plays a crucial role in the unfolding of the dramatic action, also deploy similar linguistic strategies, albeit with different proportions and with specific nuances.
