The image of Lesbia in Catullus' Liber takes on different features according to the various literary genres (polymetrical nugae, elegy, epigram in elegiac couplets) and subgenres (erotic, celebrative or satiric epigrams) attended by the poet. A careful evaluation of the 'genre' codification of the female character makes it possible to appreciate the different linguistic levels and the ever-changing variety of the moments of the relationship between the two lovers. Poems 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 37, 51, 58, 68b, 72, 79 are analysed in more detail.
