The “Kontinuirlicher Resonatoren-Apparat nach Schaefer” preserved in the Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments of the University of Ferrara consists of a box containing four resonators developed by K. L. Schaefer and manufactured by E. Zimmermann. This apparatus was donated to the University in 1950 by Cesare Minerbi, “Primario” at the Arcispedale Sant’Anna of Ferrara and Professor of Medical Semeiotics. He had used it for decades of studies on acoustical diagnostics. This article aims to offer a description of the apparatus and a brief account of its history. Both Schaefer’s innovative approach and the impact of his resonators on Minerbi’s researches will be highlighted and investigated.
