The critical edition of "Psalmi Vespertini" by Girolamo Vespa OFMConv. (Ricciardo Amadino, Venezia, 1589) well represent the renewal of the Vespertine repertoire promoted at the cathedral of Fermo after the Council of Trent. In accordance with what the Minorite composer declared in the dedicatory, the stylistic traits of these compositions give sensitive expression to the Counter-Reformation ideas regarding chant in the liturgy.
