In the framework of the LARAMED (LAboratory of RAdioisotopes for MEDicine) research program at INFN-LNL we have developed the technology for cyclotron-driven manganese-52 radionuclide production aimed at the so-called Multi-Modal Imaging. Final goal is to achieve a perfect molecular matching between PET and MRI diagnostic techniques, by using both paramagnetic as well as radioactive properties shown by some manganese isotopes. Manganese-52 may be produced exploiting 52Cr(p,n)52m/gMn reaction using medium-low energy protons (10–20 MeV).
