Cutin monomers extracted from tomato peel waste by hydrolysis was used to prepare polyester-urethane coatings by reaction with 1,4-butanediol and isophorone diisocianate. The starting monomers as well as the reaction products were characterized by infrared, 1H and 13C-NMR spectroscopies. Hydroxylic and carboxylic acid groups were also determined by acid-base titration. The obtained coatings tested on glass, wood, paper and aluminium showed good adehesion to all tested substrates, high hydrophobicity and good protection property against corrosion in the case of aluminium. The coatings showed also good thermal stability strating to degrade in nitrogen atmosphere at 330°C.
