Niniejszy dokument prezentuje uaktualnioną wersję schematu klasyfikacji kardiomiopatii proponowaną przez Grupę Roboczą Chorób Mięśnia Sercowego i Osierdzia Europejskiego Towarzystwa Kardiologicznego (European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases).

In biological sciences, classification systems are used, which, by defining logical groups and hierarchical relationships, are to promote a better understanding of the issue and a structured discussion of researchers. In clinical medicine, similar systems are intended to standardize the nomenclature of diseases. For more than 30 years, myocardial diseases have been divided into primary, or idiopathic (cardiomyopathies), and secondary, with similar morphological features and identifiable causes, such as coronary artery disease or infiltration of the heart muscle (specific diseases of the heart muscle). This document presents an updated version of the cardiomyopathy classification scheme proposed by the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases. It is intended to help practitioners delve deeper than just the general diagnosis of a specific type of cardiomyopathy in search of more specific pathologies.
