This paper offers the first results of my PhD: in more than two years I have done researchon over 90 archives and 15 statutes. This study can be considered the first overview of the management of foreigners’ access to Italian cities during the fifteenth century, with a particular focus on bolognese ocumentation from which it is possible to derive valuable information and statistical data on the flowof foreigners entering the city.
