The aim of this paper is twofold: on the one hand, we will try to determine the reasons why Pindar’s sentence σκιᾶς ὄναρ ἄνθρωπος had a large circulation in ancient times as an idiom; on the other hand, we will provide an analysis of the denotation of σκιᾶς ὄναρ in order to determine whether σκιᾶς ὄναρ could mean something more than ‘nothing’.

Abstract
The aim of this paper is twofold: on the one hand, we will try to determine the reasons why Pindar’s sentence σκιᾶς ὄναρ ἄνθρωπος had a large circulation in ancient times as an idiom; on the other hand, we will provide an analysis of the denotation of σκιᾶς ὄναρ in order to determine whether σκιᾶς ὄναρ could mean something more than ‘nothing’.File in questo prodotto:
