Abstract

Among the digital tools the predictive or simulative ones are becoming the most attractive in the design practice. This is due to the growing need for testing experimental or unconventional design options as fast as possible and with extreme accuracy in the results. Ventilation (natural or mechanical) and energy efficiency of buildings are nowadays two primary aspects to be controlled even in the early design phase. Consequently, they should be simulated in the expected real outcomes. The different calculation models represented by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Large Eddy Simulation (LES), Building Performance Simulators (BPS) and Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) platforms are comparatively described as well as some potential interactions between Building Information Models (BIM) and Building Energy Modeling (BEM). In addition is presented an interesting research case about the interaction between BEM and IoT sensors in a building management Digital Twin example.
