This article offers reflections on food as a theme in non-formal learning. There are many texts that examine this theme from both a scientific and a popular point of view; it is indeed an interdisciplinary theme that ranges from food culture, as the heritage and resource of a territory, to food education around nutrition. Yet there is almost no consideration in the literature given to food preparation in non-formal education. A series of reflections on this theme will therefore be presented here that do not aim to systematize it, but rather offer an initial exploration of the subject, with the hope that food, as part of the rich Italian heritage, can also express this richness in education.

Abstract

This article offers reflections on food as a theme in non-formal learning. There are many texts that examine this theme from both a scientific and a popular point of view; it is indeed an interdisciplinary theme that ranges from food culture, as the heritage and resource of a territory, to food education around nutrition. Yet there is almost no consideration in the literature given to food preparation in non-formal education. A series of reflections on this theme will therefore be presented here that do not aim to systematize it, but rather offer an initial exploration of the subject, with the hope that food, as part of the rich Italian heritage, can also express this richness in education.
