Building classification in Albania based on national design codes

Typologies of buildings in Albania, throughout history, depend on construction periods, and are different in terms of size, shape, function, building materials etc. Some buildings were designed based on national design codes which date from 1952 to 1989 which is still officially used in Albania. In recent years there have been different types of structures designed according to Eurocodes. Another typology of structures is based on traditional techniques without input by engineers and with poor quality materials. The objective of this paper is to make buildings classification according to some main time periods and the typology of construction. For this purpose, we will be able to classify buildings in Tirana, depending on the date of construction and structural typology. The methodology will be based on visual inspection combined with maps obtained from Geoportal-Albania and data collected on-site. The final result date is a summary of structural typologies for different time periods related the Albanian technical codes that will be useful for researchers, academics etc.
