Social security under stress After outlining the characteristics of the Covid-19 pandemic, which are useful for analyzing its effects in terms of social protection, and framing the context of reference, the Author embarks on a path of analysis that highlights the departure of social protection from the founding principles art. 3 of the Constitution, in the areas affected by the provisions issued to deal with the economic-social emergency created by the pandemic, namely: unemployment benefits, parental leaves and social assistance provisions. In this context, the provisions issued to deal with the pandemic emergency become the plastic representation of the gaps in social protection and of the unstoppable weakening of social rights. The Covid-19 provisions, however, can also represent the starting point for a rethinking, a reformulation of a welfare more appropriate to the socio-economic evolution.
