Il design a Firenze: dagli esordi alle complessità contemporanee

The Florentine design area has ancient origins. It combines all the design experiences that have developed in the field of industrial production but not only. In Florence at the end of the ‘50s some of the most significant research and teaching experiences were carried out in It- aly. The figure of Pierluigi Spadolini is to be considered fundamental for his ability of stra- tegic vision that held together research, teaching and relationship with the productive reality. If at first the design is declined almost exclusively with the design of the product and in the par- ticular field of the building component, over the years the research is articulated and specialized, expressing the whole strategic dimension of the discipline.

L’area del design fiorentino ha origini lontane. In essa confluiscono tutte le esperienze proget- tuali che si sono sviluppate nell’ambito della produzione industriale, ma non solo. A Firenze alla fine degli anni ’50 vengono svolte esperienze di ricerca e di didattica tra le più significative in Italia. La figura di Pierluigi Spadolini è da ritenersi fondamentale per la sua capacità di visione strategica che teneva assieme ricerca, didattica e rapporto con la realtà produttiva. Se in principio il design si declina quasi esclusivamente col design del prodotto e nel particolare campo del componente edilizio, negli anni le ricerche si articolano e si specializzano esprimendo tutta la dimensione strategica della disciplina.
