Alle origini del design litico

The focus and the content structure of the essay starts from the position expressed by Andrea Branzi in the book Introduction to Italian Design. An in-complete modernity, which evaluates the recent history of industrial design – as produced and, above all, “vulgate” in the country – «a sort of reductive theory, because it made the complex and rich history of ancient history unusable» (Branzi, 1999, p. 10). The essay aims to take up the thread of this story, abruptly and artfully interrupted, trying to conceptually reconcile the events of contemporary Italian design – in the specific case of the lithic design – to its roots, to the experimental and foundational stage of the Beginnings.

Il focus e la struttura argomentativa dell’essay prende le mosse dalla posizione, espressa da Andrea Branzi nel volume Introduzione al design italiano. Una modernità in-completa, che valuta la storia recente dell’industrial design – così come prodottasi e, soprattutto, “vulgata” nel Paese – «una sorta di teoria riduttiva, perché ha reso inutilizzabili le complesse e ricche vicende della storia antica» (Branzi, 1999, p. 10). Il saggio si propone di riprendere il filo di questa storia, bruscamente e artatamente interrotta, cercando, di riavvi-cinare concettualmente le vicende del design italiano con-temporaneo – nel caso specifico del design litico – alle sue radici, allo stadio sperimentale e fondativo degli Inizi.
