L'articolo illustra la rilevanza delle principali venti spiagge italiane in termini economici sul PIL nazionale; al contempo l'articolo illustra i limiti e i fattori di obsolescenza dell'offerta turistica e del paesaggio marino di tali spiagge, suggerendo una serie di interventi per la riqualificazione delle spiagge.
