the sustainability of contemporary cities manifests itself in the concepts of adaptation, resilience and creativity. The process by which humans colonized the planet, which led to urbanization, allows us to discuss how the current characteristics of the urban condition are fragmentation, dispersion and waste. A cultural change is proposed, away from the paradigm of sustainability and toward that of adaptation, especially with respect to the global issue of climate change. Then, the model of smart cities is examined, along with the policies, projects, actions and financing that aim at achieving these objectives
