In this article I propose to provide a short introduction of Étienne Souriau's reflections on the art of life. This theme is now at the center of an international debate, after the last works of Michel Foucault (and, more recently, Giorgio Agamben). Yet in the current discussion rarely refers to researches of aestheticians, let alone those of Étienne Souriau, although since the Thirties (and then continuously in the course of a long career) he has attempted to define the main lines of a complete aesthetics reflection on art of life analyzing the possibilities and limitations of the idea of making their lives an artwork.

Abstract

In this article I propose to provide a short introduction of Étienne Souriau's reflections on the art of life. This theme is now at the center of an international debate, after the last works of Michel Foucault (and, more recently, Giorgio Agamben). Yet in the current discussion rarely refers to researches of aestheticians, let alone those of Étienne Souriau, although since the Thirties (and then continuously in the course of a long career) he has attempted to define the main lines of a complete aesthetics reflection on art of life analyzing the possibilities and limitations of the idea of making their lives an artwork.
