The old National Archive building of Stockholm was inaugurated in 1891 and had been designed to take advantage of the innovative materials and technologies of its age. The building was in fact revolutionary for its day. The interiors were furnished in a functional and essential manner, floor structures were lightweight, heating and lifts were the products of avant-garde technology. An ingenious water circulation system was devised with radiator columns to bring heat into the individual rooms, while electrical lifts and manually operated goods lifts were in place to move books.
L’edificio del vecchio archivio Nazionale di Stoccolma è stato inaugurato nel 1891 privilegiando nella sua progettazione l’utilizzo di materiali e tecnologie innovative dell’epoca. L’edificio fu infatti rivoluzionario per il suo tempo: gli interni arredati in maniera spartana e funzionale, con solai leggeri, presentavano impianti di riscaldamento e ascensori all’avanguardia; furono progettati un ingegnoso sistema di circolazione d’acqua con dei radiatori a colonna per portare il calore nei singoli vani, ascensori elettrici e montacarichi azionati manualmente per la movimentazione dei volumi cartacei.
