Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is a corneal surgical technique which selectively replaces the damaged posterior part of the cornea with a healthy donor graft retaining the rest of the tissue intact. Lack of validation and standardization of the graft before transplantation may lead to consequences such as graft failure due to poor endothelial cell count, higher cell mortality, detachment of the graft or increased surgical expenses, time, and effort. Therefore surgeons and eye banks aim to develop new improved surgical techniques in order to prepare the best suited, validated, pre-cut, preloaded, and easy-to-transplant tissue to reduce pre- and post-surgical complications.

Abstract
Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is a corneal surgical technique which selectively replaces the damaged posterior part of the cornea with a healthy donor graft retaining the rest of the tissue intact. Lack of validation and standardization of the graft before transplantation may lead to consequences such as graft failure due to poor endothelial cell count, higher cell mortality, detachment of the graft or increased surgical expenses, time, and effort. Therefore surgeons and eye banks aim to develop new improved surgical techniques in order to prepare the best suited, validated, pre-cut, preloaded, and easy-to-transplant tissue to reduce pre- and post-surgical complications.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
