The purpose of the author has been to investigate how much labour law is taught in Italian Universities and how is taught. The first paragraphs of the article deal with some issues referred to teaching law in general and the most recent reforms of university legislation. The central section is devoted to gathering many empirical data about the teaching of labour law in all Italian Universities and in particularly in the two most important degree courses in legal studies: the 5 years course in Jurisprudence and the 3 years course in Science of legal services. Data about Crediti Formativi Universitari (Cfu, the Italian version of Ects), appellation of courses, qualification of teachers, using of teaching instruments are collected and commented. The second part of the essay is devoted to the public funding of research, with a severe critique of the most recent trends, as regards legal sciences research in general and labour law projects in particular. The creation of a website to continue the research is announced.
