Population-based mammography screening programmes are the most intensely monitored public health measures, at least in Europe. Over time, complex systems of indicators have been implemented to explore both the performance and impact of the process.1 Mammography sensitivity is the most powerful factor for screening effectiveness in reducing mortality, together with women's participation, and is included among these indicators.
