In recent years the study of low-dimensional magnetic systems has become topical for achieving a deep understanding of the underlying physics of magnetic nanostructures and for its potential technological applications. Very recently, great attention has been devoted to the investigation of the effective and metamaterial properties of magnetic nanostructures with special regard to magnonic crystals, a class of periodic magnetic systems. In this talk it is shown, according to micromagnetic simulations and analytical calculations, that magnonic crystals exhibit metamaterial properties directly linked to the static and dynamic properties of collective modes.
