Two groups of hemisphere-damaged patients (with right-sided lesions and left-sided lesions) and a group of control subjects were tested in a tactile comparison task. The retention ability in tactile perception was evaluated, as the intervals between the stimuli were varied by the examiner. The patients with right-sided lesions were impaired on the tactile retention task, while the left-damaged patients did not perform poorer than the control subjects. The authors suggest that the right hemisphere plays an important role in tactile perception of spatial informations and in their cognitive elaboration. The implications concerning the rehabilitation treatment of brain-damaged patients are discussed.

Abstract
Two groups of hemisphere-damaged patients (with right-sided lesions and left-sided lesions) and a group of control subjects were tested in a tactile comparison task. The retention ability in tactile perception was evaluated, as the intervals between the stimuli were varied by the examiner. The patients with right-sided lesions were impaired on the tactile retention task, while the left-damaged patients did not perform poorer than the control subjects. The authors suggest that the right hemisphere plays an important role in tactile perception of spatial informations and in their cognitive elaboration. The implications concerning the rehabilitation treatment of brain-damaged patients are discussed.I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
