About 300 million people of all ages and ethnic groups are affected worldwide by asthma [7]. The increase in prevalence is estimated to 400 million cases by 2025 [20]. In addition of emotional, physical and social impact of asthma, the quality of life of both patients and their families are deteriorated by the economic burden of direct costs (hospitalization, use of emergency room visits, therapy) and indirect costs [18]. International guidelines indicate asthma control as the main outcome of asthma management, whose main components are prevention of symptoms, improved quality of life, and reduction of exacerbations. Altogether, these actions lead to decreased health care costs [24].

Abstract
About 300 million people of all ages and ethnic groups are affected worldwide by asthma [7]. The increase in prevalence is estimated to 400 million cases by 2025 [20]. In addition of emotional, physical and social impact of asthma, the quality of life of both patients and their families are deteriorated by the economic burden of direct costs (hospitalization, use of emergency room visits, therapy) and indirect costs [18]. International guidelines indicate asthma control as the main outcome of asthma management, whose main components are prevention of symptoms, improved quality of life, and reduction of exacerbations. Altogether, these actions lead to decreased health care costs [24].I documenti in SFERA sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
